So I've had some time to get settled in over here, and so far I'm adjusting well. Our schedule at the hospital is two days on two days off, and then we're on call on our days off. I'll also be joining a trauma ad-hoc team so I will be paged for that whenever they need help as well. I'm working nights right now, which is nice in that I'm on the same sleep schedule as all of y'all back in the states!
They do have a lot of activities and varieties of exercises for all of us to stay busy. I will be signing up for my first 5K tomorrow. They'll start back up in August after Ramadan and of course after it cools off a little bit out here. Different groups will put on runs as fundraisers and morale boosters. I'm just looking forward to getting involved! I'm sure that surprises all of y'all :)
Personally, I've been enjoying rowing (in the gym of course), crossfit, and spin classes. I have a running buddy and am going to focus on that as well. Part of keeping the mind healthy and fresh is taking care of one's body as well! They encourage exercise, but reading and relaxing as well. A good balance is most important!
I'll be putting up pictures of my room and surroundings later this week. My walls are bare right now, but I have twine and paperclips from home (thanks momma!) to be able to hang up pictures, cards, drawings, anything and everything up on my wall to remind me of home. The mail system out here is amazing so far! It's a huge boost to see your name on the mail list, I can definitely say that much!
Time to get some sleep- its been a long couple of days getting settled in and experiencing a lot of firsts so far! Feel free to send me updates of what all is going on at home too- it sounds silly but I love hearing just what happens day to day. It's such a different norm than here, it's great to escape (same principle behind reading). Feel free to shoot me emails too- eaboehm@gmail.com
Night all!
